Understanding IJMBE and JUPEB A-Level

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examinations (IJMBE)  and the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB)  are advanced-level (A-Level) programs designed to help students secure admission into the 200-level of a university degree without writing UTME (JAMB).

1. How the Programs Works

The basic structure of both programs is very similar:

Duration: Typically 9 to 10 months (one academic session).

The Process: You register at our study center, select three subjects related to your intended course of study, and undergo intensive lectures.

Examination : At the end of the session, you sit for a final exam.

 Direct Entry (DE): Once you pass and get your certificate, you apply through JAMB Direct Entry to gain admission directly into the second year (200L) of your chosen university.

2. Key Differences:

While they serve the same purpose, they are managed by different bodies and have slightly different acceptance rates.

IJMBE is accepted within Nigerian, while JUPEB is accepted both within and out Nigeria

3. Grading System

Both programs use a points-based grading system rather than percentages. You take three subjects, and your total points determine your eligibility for specific courses (e.g., Medicine or Engineering usually require 12–15 points).

A = 5 points

B = 4 points

C = 3 points

D = 2 points

E = 1 point

F = 0 points

Bonus: 1 extra point is usually added if you do not have an “F” in your results.

4. Why Students Choose Them?

1.Skip 100L: It saves the time of a “freshman” year.

2.No JAMB/UTME: You don’t need a UTME score to get started; you only need your O’Level (WAEC/NECO) results with NIN and FOUR COLOURED WHITE BACKGROUND PASSPORTS

 Validity : IJMBE results technically does not expire, whereas JUPEB results are often expected to be used within 3 years.
